The Central Asian Urban Forum is a platform for discussing current issues of urban development and urbanism with the participation of representatives of the architectural community and construction industry from Central Asia and the world with the aim of developing recommendations for solving urban development problems, such as transport infrastructure, environmental issues, housing problems, economic development, shaping the future of cities, providing a space for dialogue, innovation and joint action to improve the quality of life of people in urban environments.
RELEVANCE
Modernization and construction of urban infrastructure in Central Asia is a systemic problem. Experts believe that urbanization processes in the region are not accompanied by corresponding sustainable urban development. In large cities of Central Asia, unregulated development of territories is often observed. The results of such urbanization are growing pressure on urban labor markets, degradation of engineering infrastructure, and high vulnerability to climate change, natural disasters and environmental threats. For example, Astana, Almaty, Bishkek, Dushanbe and Tashkent regularly top global rankings for the worst air quality in winter. Taking into account the similarity of socio-economic situation, natural and climatic conditions, cultural and mental characteristics, the countries of the region can join forces in developing common approaches to the sustainable development of cities and urbanization.
